After the main casts’ public announcement, “East of Eden” immediately becomes the most awaited tv series in the ending half of 2008. The project whose investment already goes up to 25.5 billion wons is a prolonged-40-year story line (from 1960 to 2000) evolving around a never-ending relationship between two most major families.
“East of Eden” gathers number of top young stars such as Song Seung Hun, Yeon Jung Hoon, Han Ji Hye, Lee Da Hae, Lee Yeon Hee, Park Hae Jin, etc, and key actors such as Yang Dong Geun, Jo Min Gi, etc.
The producer says, “’East of Eden’ is a big venture focusing on family’s affairs. Therefore, it won’t center one or two main actors. The more stars there is the more unique appealing traits each character will represent. Hopefully, this series will soon be recognized as one of the classics.”
On June 11th, the team and its member have the first meeting. Even though Song Seung Hun didn’t come due to a personal reason, the main casts were all there. For MBC, its Director Choi Yong Geun with greetings for the crews announces, “’East of Eden’ will be a momentous work for the audience.”
Speaking for his production company, Kim Ki Bum reveals that, “Since the start of the filming process last fall, we have not only sacrificed a lot of strength, but also devoted much passion hoping to make ‘East of Eden’ a work that audience find irresistible.”
And even the main casts show their devotion of working hard in the drama.
Main actor Song Seung Hun plays part of Dong Chul, the right hand of a casino boss. This is the first drama after five years of hiatus, hence Son Seung Hun expresses that he’ll dedicate himself into the character Dong Chul.
Being discharged, Yeon Jung Hoon instantaneously picks this project. He plays the part of Dong Wook, a fine, but ill-fated lawyer, who is left existing with regrets. In the press conference, Jung Hoon expresses, “From the first reading of the scripts, I have felt lots of emotions.”
Lee Da Hae stars as Hye Rin, a newspaper’s beneficial with lots of ambitions. However, “the ambitious lady named Hye Rin” has eventually changed once facing the two brothers, Dong Chul and Dong Wook. Lee Da Hae says, “Before, I always represented the image of a witty, lovely girl. But this time, I will be portrayed as an intelligent and ambitious woman.”
Han Ji Hye, the last one selected for “East of Eden” as Ji Hyun, is the first love of three guys, Dong Chul, Dong Wook, and Myung Hoon (starred by Park Hae Jin). Although Ji Hyun has to carry the family’s tradition and marries to a man she doesn’t love, she’s still positive and carries a loving heart.
Park Hae Jin, attempting the role of an antagonist for the first time in “East of Eden,” plays the part of Myung Hoon, the first child of President Shin Tae Hwan (played by Jo Min Ki). Under the father’s influence, Myung Hoon gradually transforms into a ruthless person believing the principles of violence.
Lee Yeon Hee is Young Ran, the daughter of casino owner Jung Dae Hwa (starred by Yang Dong Geun), who thinks positively, and lives fearlessly. Dong Chul and she will together write the song of love.
Lately, “East of Eden” has been filming backgrounds in Hong Kong and Macau. The drama will be available to viewers from August 25 on Monday and Tuesday nights weekly.
