Lee Byung Hun: It's tough in Hollywood with insufficient English skill

Hallyu star Lee Byung Hun has not been in Korea for a long time.

Recently, Lee Byung Hun just came back to Korea after G.I. Joe, a Hollywood’s piece of art. At the press, he revealed his remarkable story during the time of filming, "At the beginning of the shooting progress, due to my poor English, every time after the shoots, I always walked back to my room, not wanting to talk to anyone in the crew. This behavior accidentally made me appear conceited before them. Then when my English got better, I myself actually went out and started talking to everybody. Finally, the cast, the crew, and I became friends as close as we should."

After getting back to Korea, Lee Byung Hun again prepares for the drama “IRIS” which will be aired in 2009.

Lee Byung Hun uses his real name : “Lee Byung Hun” actively. To explain this, Lee Byung Hun said ”The reason for not using a English name is because I want to hear foreigners seriously call my Korean name, I also love them calling me so”.

as i posed in a different topic, all of these fine korean actors should just stay home and stop thinking about hollywood.  in hollywood productions, they are always given at best supporting and sterotyping roles and also treated as 2nd rate.  it's not really like they need the money,  but the pay is not that good either.

I think we have to admire his courage and ambition to enter a huge and foreign HOLLYWOOD. I hope he can make a big name and he can have many good roles to play. Chau Nhuan Phat - HK actor - also tried to enter Hollywood but so far he just appeared in 2 roles, as a villian old chinese gangster in "Pirates of the Caribean" and as King of Siam in the King and I  .

Why do they have to stay home? Why don't you want them to try new area, collect more experience with the greatest movie crews in the world? I don't think they come to the Hollywood because the payment. Lots of things they can absorb there, communication, professionalism.... improve their acting, English etc..

it's not that i don't want them to expand. it's just that i hate the way hollywood treats asian actors. name me is one movie that an asian actress is not typecasted in either a beautiful but submissive girlfriend role or someone who can kick and punch.  it's equally bad for the male actors.

Lucy Liu, she's pretty good . i first watch her in Ally McBeal and I love it . There are a lot ot talented asian actors and atresses out there . Ah, one more, diđ you watch ER, lot of asians played doctor . kind of steryotype isn't it?

Yes, it is pretty hard to be in Hollywood without decent English skill indeed, especially when it's such a cut throat world. Anyway, I gave props to him for trying and doing his best.

That good that LBH has an opportunity to do something new out of his comfort zone despite of his English.  
Glad he is back...looking forward to see him and co-star KTH in several months.

It is very hard for Asian actors to play some main roles in Hollywood, I think because  not only the descrimination between races, but also the protection for their movie industrial
Also, only few of our famous actors are enough sufficient english skill to enter Hollywood, far from succesful in their main roles
That not only for play the movies, if we are the immigration to the West country, we need to try harder and double to be succesful in any ereas in the society
